Wyatt Crocker Limited, the parent company of Ironmongery Experts, was founded in 1992 by Ron and Brad Backhouse. Since then, it has grown to house a total of 13 employees with the majority having some kind of relation; a large factor in how we maintain our personable family approach.
Initially founded to provide a personal service to the construction and joinery industry, the business has moved to having a formidable online presence through the website. Our legacy and time within the trade ensures that our trained staff has a wealth of experience who can help you with a range of products; from types of door handles to hinges supplied from a range of manufacturers including From the Anvil and Carlisle Brass. Our knowledge towards architectural ironmongery aligns with the standards set by the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers.
History and Legacy
Company Co-founder Ron started his ironmongery career in 1961 at age 18 and throughout his years, he progressed from accounts to managing director; developing his knowledge on potentially confusing subjects such as door closer types. The expertise that he had already gained and his son Brad working within accounts in this industry as well encouraged them both to start Wyatt Crocker; also known as Ironmongery Experts online. Ron sadly passing in 2020 encourages us as a company to continue on the legacy that he contributed towards creating.
Even though Wyatt Crocker started as a company to serve the construction industry, we feel that changing our focus to our online presence of ‘Ironmongery Experts’ has been a massive game changer; allowing us to reach a much bigger audience while still supplying traditional Ironmongery products such as handrail brackets or hasp and staples. This movement has definitely shaped the company to be a much more recognisable name within the Ironmongery industry and heightens our satisfaction as a team as we have the potential to further help those in need.
We hope to bring a unique and specialist experience to every individual who chooses to make a purchase and one way we have done this is by introducing ‘In house’ keying workshop; this allows us to produce master keyed systems at very short notice from our vast stock of cylinders and keys. This new innovation in the industry allows us to serve customers to the highest potential, with our trained staff guiding our customers through every step of the process.
Family Structure and Values
We hold huge importance towards the family aspect of Ironmongery Experts. Starting with father and son, Ron and Brad, it has grown to involve many others within the Backhouse family: including Ron’s brother Barry and second son Dean, cousins Ben and Tom, Brad’s wife Tracey as well as their daughter and her partner. All other non-related employees hold large loyalty and history with the business, meaning they have grown to be a huge part of the ‘Ironmongery Experts’ family; all hoping to help you with any project you desire, whether that be finding kitchen handles or a simple gate bolt.
Due to the nature of our office, we foster an environment of trust and this is what we hope to follow down through to our consumers; hoping to provide them with a professional experience which still portrays that personable aspect. This is something of huge importance to us and is seen as a one of our major values which we hope to bring through the future generations of Ironmongery Experts’ directors; forming good relationships with customers and positive buying experiences being our upmost priorities.
Achievements and Recognition
Our staff has a large amount of training which ensures we can provide our customers with the best experience possible; co-founder Ron as well as his brother Barry both completing GAI diplomas in architectural ironmongery in 1976 and 1972 with their former companies before their retirement. Carrying on this legacy, current technical director Dean Backhouse has a GAI certificate in architectural ironmongery; part 1 completed in 2016 and part 2 completed in 2017. In addition, senior member of staff Ben Backhouse has this same certificate completed in 2016 and GAI diploma similarly to his father Barry which he completed in 2017.
Our focus is to serve customers to the fullest potential and we hope that can be portrayed through the feedback we receive.

Every day we aim to act in ways that will provide a positive influence on our customers; whether that be introducing new products or taking courses to further expand our expertise and knowledge.
