In this guide, we will help you to install a perfectly fitted pull handle.
Door pull handles are there to help spread the weight across a larger area of a door, making the pulling action of opening up a door feel effortless, especially for heavier doors. Door pull handles are usually seen on but are not limited to, entrance doors and commercial buildings.
So, we know that door pull handles are there to make the opening of a door feel effortless. But how can we ensure that the handle will be fitted appropriately and securely? What kind of tools will you need to fit one? The answers to your questions will be found in this guide!
Materials needed:
- 1 x Pull handle (we’d recommend our top-selling Satin Stainless Steel 30 x 1200mm Guardsman Pull Handle, alternatively there is our 1800mm Satin Stainless Steel 30mm Bolt Through Guardsman Pull Handle if you’re looking for a larger sized handle)
- 1x Our Back to Back Fixing for Zoo 30mm Guardsman Pull Handle (these aren’t mandatory, but are recommended if you are seeking a long, maintenance-free life span!)
- 2 x Torx Screws
- 2 x Pull Handle Grub Screws
- 1 x Torx Head Allen Key
- 1 x Spirit Level
- 1 x Pencil
- 1 x Tape measure
- 1 x Screwdriver
- 1 x Hex key
Preparing the door height (step 1):
First things first, you will need to determine your pull handle’s desired position horizontally and vertically. Next, you will to take your Spirit Level and draw a vertical centreline at a desired distance from the door edges using a pencil.
Preparing the door centre to centre (step 2):
Following the first step, you now need to prepare the door handle Centre to Centre (CTC). To measure your handle CTC precisely, measure from the outside of one hole to the inside of the other hole using a tape measure for exact results. Then mark the CTC on the door, ensuring that the centre lies on your marked centre point. After doing this, you will want to repeat steps 1 and 2 on the other side of the door for back-to-back fixing.
Drilling the door holes (step 3):
You now need to drill the centre point with a drill. When drilling through the door, start by drilling through halfway on one side. Then finish drilling through on the other side of the door; this will ensure that the drilled holes are aligned and level.
Inserting the bolts (step 4):
Hold the handle firmly against the door and screw in the bolts with a screwdriver. Be careful not to over tighten the bolt. After inserting the bolts, insert the grub screws and tighten them with a hex key.
Finally, test the stability of your fitted pull handle and you’re done!
