Perhaps you are looking for a storage solution for your coats, hats and other accessories instead of leaving them on the bannister or on a piece of furniture near your entryway. Coat hooks are the perfect solution! These hooks are ideal for keeping your coats accessible and organised whilst adding a special touch of style to that under-appreciated space near your front door.

Consider the space.

The first two things to consider before getting a coat hook are the space you’ve got to work with and the pieces of clothing and accessories which you are going to store. For instance, if you already have your walls decorated with pictures and paintings, maybe you should stick to fitting coat hooks on the front door. Whereas if your walls are quite dull without any decoration, fitting coat hooks might give them an interesting décor.

Purchase the right coat hook.

Then, it’s important to think about the style of coat hook you want as even though these are small hardware details, they can make or break the décor. Some of the coat hooks in stock include black coat hooks, satin stainless steel coat hooks, satin nickel coat hooks, aged bronze period coat hooks and matte black single coat hooks.

Materials.

  • Masking tape
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Hooks
  • Stud finder (optional)

Instructions.

Step 1. Ideally, you’d want to fit hooks on studs as these offer a great amount of support. Use the stud finder to locate studs behind the wall and use a piece of masking tape to mark its location (this is where you’ll install the hook). In case you want to use a location that doesn’t have a stud behind the wall, we’d recommend using hollow wall anchors or molly bolts – simply choose where you want to fit your hooks and use masking tape to mark the location.

Step 2. By using masking tape, you’ll be able to see how many hooks you’ll require for the space you’ve got, without ruining your walls with pencil marks.

Step 3. Measure the space between the hooks with a tape measure to ensure these are equally spaced.

Step 4. Mark the centre of where you want to position your hook and use a level to ensure the location is straight. Then, place the hook on top of your desired position and mark the screw holes.

Step 5. Drill your pilot holes where you’ve marked your screw holes and after, remove the masking tape. Now, it’s time to attach the hooks and that’s it!

Materials.

  • Masking tape
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Hooks

Instructions.

Step 1. Ensure that the anchors are short enough that they won’t go through the door by holding the anchors up to the side of the door.

Step 2. Measure the centre of the door by using a tape measure and mark that location with a pencil.

Step 3. Place the hook on top of your marked location and pencil in the screw holes, where you’ll drill the pilot holes for the anchors. Use a level to ensure these are straight.

Step 4. Put the anchor next to the drill bit and tape the bit to the exact length of the anchor. This will ensure that you know how far you can drill without going through the door.

Step 5. Drill your pilot holes slowly until you’ve reached the limit you’ve set with the masking tape.

Step 6. Add the anchors to your pilot holes. Then, place the hook on top of the anchors and slowly tighten the screws into the anchors. And that’s it – you’ve installed a coat hook on your door!
