Pocket doors are the ideal solution to maximise small spaces, such as bathrooms, laundry rooms and other areas. Bathrooms require a certain level of privacy whilst laundry rooms often don’t, however, if you have small children, it is recommended to lock laundry rooms as there are various hazards which are not child-friendly.

At Ironmongery Experts, we have a large collection of pocket door locks to suit any and all properties. This includes our matte black sliding door locking kits, polished brass pocket door lock sets and satin chrome pocket door lock sets. These come with the door lock and the turn handle to operate the lock which features an emergency release that can be opened with a coin from the outside, in case of an emergency. The latter two sets also feature a recessed finger pull to easily pull the pocket door closed from its cavity on the wall.

  • Jigsaw

Instructions.

Step 1. Measure from the bottom of the door to the middle where you would like to place your door lock. Mark this location with a pencil. Remember that this should be a comfortable to reach position.

Step 2. Place your lock template on top of your marked location and use a pencil to mark the areas you’ll need to cut.

Step 3. Use a jigsaw to cut out the shape you’ve just marked on the door.

Step 4. Insert the lock in place, drill the necessary pilot holes for the screws and then fasten the crews.

Step 5. Then, you’ll need to fit the strike plate. Slide the door closed and mark the top and bottom of the lock on the door jamb.

Step 6. Place the strike plate in place to ensure that the measurements are accurate. Chisel the sides to accurately mark around the plate.

Step 7. Use a chisel and a hammer to cut off the depth of the strike plate, so it sits evenly with the surface of the door jamb.

Step 8. Insert the strike plate and fasten its screws.

Step 9. Test to see if the door lock works smoothly. Make adjustments as needed.

And that’s it – you’ve installed a pocket door lock with ease.
