Fire Brigade locks, also known as FB locks, are usually fitted to dry risers or cupboards that might have fire hydrants or sprinkler systems installed within buildings. These are also used to access communal doors, entrances, barriers, among other access points which the London Fire Brigade might require access to, in case of an emergency.

FB locks are designed to be easily opened with their designated fire brigade key, allowing the Fire Brigade to access areas without smashing or kicking the door open. This type of lock also restricts public access to potentially dangerous areas.
