What is a door kick plate?
A door kick plate is a sheet of material, (usually metal, but can also be vinyl or plastic), attached to the bottom of your door to protect it from wear and tear. They are usually around 10-16 inches tall and can be seen on doors in commercial businesses.
The idea came about from people having their hands full and kicking their door open with their foot. While it’s more convenient than putting all of your bags on the floor to free up your hands, kicking the door can really damage it, especially if it’s made of a cheap material.

Kick plates are especially popular with businesses and commercial buildings, as their doors are used hundreds of times each day, but they’re becoming increasingly popular with domestic homes.
Do I need one on my door?
While they aren’t compulsory, door kick plates can drastically extend the life of your door, saving you money in the long run from having to replace it – and doors aren’t cheap. Scratches and dents may not bother you, but that doesn’t mean a kick plate isn’t for you. They can also add an element of design and style, as they come in several different colours and materials. They’re easy to install and often come with matching screws, so they can be fitted instantly.

Which kick plate should I choose?
Kick plates are most commonly made from metal and come in silver and gold, but there are thousands of options out there to choose from. While metal kick plates are more durable, plastic and vinyl plates allow for more creative control and endless customisation.
