Overview

The Eurospec Matt Black Adjustable 65mm Hinge (HIN16300CE) is a Grade 10 hinge manufactured to EN 1935:2002. Unlike a standard butt hinge, it is designed to be fitted into a separate hinge frame plate, which allows the door's position to be fine-tuned after hanging using a removable adjustment stud. This makes it useful for correcting minor misalignment without lifting the door off its hinges.

Finished in matt black, the hinge is sold individually and is suitable for doors weighing up to 60kg when three hinges are fitted per door. As a matt black adjustable door hinge with in-situ adjustment, it is very popular with doorset manufacturers and is widely specified on UK new build housing developments, where fast, reliable adjustment helps installers achieve a consistent fit across high volumes of doors.

Suitable For

This hinge is intended for internal timber doors in residential and commercial settings, including situations where a door needs to be adjusted slightly after installation to correct binding, dropping, or gaps around the frame. It is designed for use with the corresponding AFP163 hinge frame plate rather than as a direct replacement for a standard butt hinge, and is a popular specification choice for doorset manufacturers and joinery companies supplying UK new build developments.

What's Included

  • 1 x Eurospec Matt Black Adjustable 65mm Hinge
  • 1 x Screw pack

The hinge is sold singularly. A matching hinge frame plate, selected according to door thickness, is required for installation and is sold separately. Frame plates are available in three sizes:

Installation & Maintenance

The hinge frame plate is mortised into the door edge first, using the plate as a template for marking and pilot drilling the fixing holes, then secured with the screws provided. The door is then offered up to the frame so the corresponding mortice position can be marked on the frame, and the hinge leaf is fitted in the same way. Once the door is hung, the adjustment stud is fitted into each plate, with the raised bump aligned to the neutral (0) position.

The plates on each hinge must be fitted with the same orientation, and the door should not be drilled into while the hinge is installed. Full step-by-step fitting instructions are supplied with the product.

To adjust the door after installation, remove the stud from the hinge nearest the affected area and turn it to the required position before refitting: 0 is neutral, +1 and +2 increase the gap by 1mm and 2mm respectively, and -1 decreases the gap by 1mm. It may take a few attempts to get the position right, and all hinges on the door should be adjusted to match.

For ongoing care, check that hinges are correctly aligned and that fixing screws are tight at least once a year. If the hinge becomes stiff, apply a small amount of fine machine oil or a PTFE-based lubricant such as GT85 to the knuckle joint and wipe away any excess. Take care to protect the door and frame finish while carrying out maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this hinge sold individually or as a set?

It is sold individually. For a typical domestic door, three hinges are recommended to support weights of up to 60kg.

Does this include fixing screws?

Yes, a screw pack is included with each hinge.

Do I need anything else to fit this hinge?

Yes. This hinge is designed to be used with a matching adjustable hinge frame plate, selected to suit your door thickness: AFP16334U (35mm doors), AFP16339U (40mm doors) or AFP16344U (44mm doors). The frame plate is sold separately.

What door thickness does this hinge suit?

It is suitable for 35mm, 40mm or 44mm doors, when paired with the correspondingly sized AFP163 frame plate.

Can the door be adjusted after the hinge is fitted?

Yes. Each hinge has a removable stud that can be turned to shift the door position by up to 2mm without taking the door off the frame.

What is the maximum door weight this hinge can support?

Up to 60kg, based on three hinges fitted per door.

Is this finish available to match other door hardware?

Yes. The same hinge is also available in Polished Chrome and White, alongside the Matt Black finish, for coordinating with other ironmongery.

How should the hinge be maintained?

Check alignment and screw tightness at least annually, and lubricate the knuckle joint with fine machine oil or a PTFE lubricant such as GT85 if it becomes stiff, wiping away any excess.

Is this hinge suitable for new build housing developments?

Yes. Its matt black finish and in-situ adjustability make it a popular choice with doorset manufacturers and joinery companies, and it is widely used on UK new build developments.
